We’re looking for an experienced Senior WordPress Engineer/Technical Lead who can architect and extend complex WP installations, keep performance rock‑solid, and guide a multi‑disciplinary team. You’ll own back‑end PHP development (custom APIs, plugins) and front‑end delivery, while integrating external Node.js services. This is a hands-on, leadership role for a high‑traffic, real‑time website.
What will your job look like?
Extend WordPress Core & REST APIs — design custom endpoints, authentication flows, and headless integrations.
Performance, Caching & Availability — tune object and full‑page caching (Redis, Varnish, CDN), keep Core Web Vitals green, and ensure high uptime.
Project & Technical Leadership — set architecture, sprint goals, DevOps practices, and mentor 5–8 engineers with day‑to‑day code reviews.
Plugin & Theme Engineering — build production‑grade plugins (PHP 8+, Composer, PSR‑12) and maintain a modern theme stack (Gutenberg/FSE, Twig/Blade, Tailwind).
Node.js Integrations — consume and extend Node.js micro‑services; design secure hand‑offs between PHP and JavaScript runtimes.
Quality & CI/CD — enforce automated testing (PHPUnit, Jest, Cypress), static analysis, and blue‑green deployments.
All You need is ...
7+ years of WordPress/PHP development experience (with 2+ in a lead role).
Deep expertise in PHP 8.x, OOP, plugin architecture, and custom API design.
Strong front-end skills—Gutenberg blocks, React, Tailwind, and modern build tools.
Solid performance and caching know-how, including WP-CLI profiling and monitoring.
Experience integrating Node.js services with WordPress (REST, GraphQL).
Proactive code reviewer who cares about security, readability, and maintainability.
Clear communicator who connects technical decisions to business value.
